What Is the Number Puzzle?
The Number Puzzle is a math-based grid game where you fill empty cells with digits so that every row and every column sums to the same target number. Some cells are pre-filled as clues; your job is to complete the grid using logic and arithmetic. How to Play
Each puzzle displays a 4×4 or 5×5 grid. A target sum is shown at the top - every row and every column must add up to this number. Gray cells are fixed clues; white cells are yours to fill. Difficulty Levels
Easy puzzles use 4×4 grids with more pre-filled cells, so you have fewer blanks to complete. The target sums are smaller and the logic is straightforward. Medium puzzles also use 4×4 grids but with fewer clues, requiring more calculation and trial-and-error. Hard puzzles switch to 5×5 grids with fewer given numbers. The larger grid and higher target sums demand careful planning and systematic checking. Choose the level that matches your skill and work your way up.
Validation and Feedback
As you type numbers, the game instantly checks each row and column. If a row's sum doesn't match the target, every cell in that row is highlighted in red. The same applies to columns. This immediate feedback helps you spot errors quickly and correct them before moving on. No need to wait until the end - you always know which lines need attention. The target numbers at the end of each row and column update in real time, turning red when incorrect and gray when correct.
Strategy Tips
- Start with the most constrained rows and columns. Rows or columns with more filled cells have fewer unknowns. Calculate what the missing number must be.
- Use the intersection. When a row and column both have one empty cell, that cell's value is determined by both constraints. Solve it first.
- Work backwards from the target. If the target is 20 and you have 3, 7, and 5, the last cell must be 5. Subtraction is your friend.
- Double-check before moving on. A single wrong digit can throw off multiple rows and columns. Verify each placement as you go.
