Solitaire Tips and Tricks for Consistent Wins

By MiniGamePlanet Team · March 5, 2026

Klondike Solitaire is the classic card game: build foundations from ace to king, manage the tableau, and draw from the stock. Some games are unwinnable, but many losses come from avoidable mistakes. With the right strategy, you can turn more deals into wins. Here's how to play Solitaire smarter at MiniGamePlanet.

Prioritize Aces and Deuces

Get aces to the foundations as soon as possible. They're the base of every suit — without them, you can't build. Deuces (2s) are next. Don't leave an ace buried under other cards when you could move it. Same for 2s: once an ace is up, play the 2 immediately if you can. Building foundations early frees tableau space and reveals more options.

When to Draw from the Stock

Don't draw three cards from the stock until you've exhausted all tableau moves. Every move you make from the tableau might reveal new cards or create new sequences. Drawing too early can bury useful cards. Draw only when you have no other legal moves. In draw-one mode, the same rule applies: maximize tableau play before touching the stock.

Empty Columns Are Gold

An empty tableau column can hold a king — and only a king. Use empty columns strategically. Don't fill an empty column with a random king if you have a long sequence you could move there instead. Moving a sequence to an empty column often reveals a card underneath. Prefer moves that expose hidden cards over moves that don't.

Build in Color, Not Just Suit

Tableau columns alternate red and black. When you have a choice, build sequences that expose more cards. If moving a red 7 onto a black 8 reveals a card, and moving a black 7 onto a red 8 doesn't, prefer the first. Always ask: which move gives me more information?

Don't Rush to the Foundations

It's tempting to play every card to the foundations as soon as it's available. Sometimes that's wrong. If playing a 5 to the foundation blocks a useful tableau move (e.g., you need that 5 to build a sequence), wait. Keep cards in the tableau when they help you uncover more. Move to foundations when it doesn't cost you options.

Manage Kings Carefully

Kings can only go in empty columns. If you have multiple kings, place them where they don't block lower cards you need. A king on top of a 5 you need is a problem. Sometimes it's better to leave a king in the stock or on the tableau if moving it would block progress.

Think Before You Move

Solitaire rewards patience. Before making a move, scan the whole layout. Is there a better move? Could this move block something? Take a few seconds to plan. Rushing leads to mistakes that turn winnable games into losses.

Practice and Enjoy

No strategy wins every game — Klondike has a significant luck factor. But good play increases your win rate. Play regularly, learn from losses, and enjoy the process.
